My Hilton Chanter came in the mail a few days ago. It made the long trip from Australia to the USA in less than a few weeks and was robustly packaged. As soon as I unwrapped the chanter and assembled it, I couldn't stop playing. The feel of this instrument in your hands is itself magical. The music starts flowing through your fingers as soon as the two are joined.
I am a very wet blower and have used both an Endurance Practice Chanter and a Twist Trap moisture control chanter from R.G. Hardie to try to mitigate build up inside the chanter, specifically on the reed. Within half an hour's practice session, I have to stop and clean out both of these practice changers several times to get the reed to stop warbling due to the build of this moisture. The first time I picked up my Hilton Chanter, I lost track of time and it was over an hour before I came back to reality. The only thing in which I was disappointed was my skill to play the instrument.
I removed the multi-piece, top section and was pleasantly supersized to see condensation had not built up on or in the reed or progressed down the bore of the bottom section. There was plenty of build up within the two pieces of the top section but with the new and innovative design of all three section more air flow is introduced before air even touches the reed. The base of the reed was encircled by moisture but the conical reed seat is also designed to catch condensation and keep if from migrating up the stalk.
I am a relatively new piper and just started using my Twist-Trap practice pipe set, still working my way up to a full set of the Great Highland Bagpipes, but I can feel the performance and innovation of the Lincoln Chanter will inspire me to not only unconsciously focus longer when I practice, but I will also enjoy the time spent with this beautiful musical instrument!
Other practice chanters are just tools to get you where you want to be as a piper. The Lincoln Chanter is a musical journey in and of itself.

Even better, we loved hearing about losing track of time while playing, that’s truly one of the best compliments an instrument can receive. It’s also really encouraging to hear how well the chanter handled moisture compared to others, knowing the design works as intended means a lot to us. And that last part really struck a chord. Calling the Lincoln Chanter a “musical journey” rather than just a practice tool is exactly what we hope players feel, especially early on in their piping journey. Skill comes with time, but enjoying the process is what keeps you coming back and growing.

The reed is extremely responsive and the tone is excellent. I have #143 and it runs so well. My wife got it for my birthday and I can say it is definitely the best present I have received in a very long time. I just wish I could get a few more for the guys in the band I play with. This chanter is far more than I deserve. I have been piping for 15 years now I started at 25 and this is just an amazing practice chanter 100% recommend!

great collection of tunes! so many tunes. good explanation of how to play the "unorthodox maneuvers." book itself is over-sized and solid. glossy paper feels premium and the sewn-in ribbon bookmark is a nice touch.
